‘My Family Kitchen’ began very simply. At the beginning of 2012 I acquired the recipe books my Grandma, Thelma, used to use in her own kitchen. I decided to start cataloguing the recipes digitally because they were becoming very fragile and after reading dozens of the recipes while I was typing them up, I had a desire to cook and photograph them as a way of further preserving the history. I was so excited by the food that I was producing from these recipes that I wanted to find a way to share them with friends and family and from that, this blog was born.
My Family Kitchen
The foundation and main motivation for this blog, will always be the desire to share wonderful traditional recipes. Drawn from my Grandmother’s collection and translated for the modern life… new ingredients… new methods… same flavours.
My Grandmother was a wonderful cook and I have so many treasured memories from visits to my Grandparents’ home. Memories that are instilled in the smells and flavours that came out of her kitchen. Food is funny that way…
A little about me
I’m based in beautiful Brisbane, Australia with my wonderful husband and adorable but mischievous dog Shelby. Even though I have a double degree in Law and Environmental Science, I also love anything creative: sewing, paper crafts and of course, cooking. I am a girly girl most of the time but also love nothing better than getting out in the bush and getting dirty. I adore homemade bread, fresh and hot, straight out of the oven but I’m also quite fond of cheese, chocolate and wine (yes, I’m a cliché).
My Family Adventures
It’s no surprise to those who know me that I LOVE to travel. I’ve always got spreadsheets with multiple trips all planned and maps with pins stuck all over – dreaming of future travels.
As well as the big trips, we also take every opportunity to get away for weekend getaways… trips to the family farm or camping excursions around South East Queensland. Join us for trip reports, campground reviews and maybe even a little bit of campfire cooking…. because, you know… food is one of my loves
